Commander of the Navy pays homage to places of worship in Anuradhapura
The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda paid his respects to the Atamasthana (the eight sacred sites) and other prominent places of worship in Anuradhapura on 12th January 2025. This marked his first visit to the historic city since assuming office as the 26th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy. He was accompanied by Mrs. Anusha Banagoda, the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, during the visit.
The Commander of the Navy paid homage to the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura and met with the Atamasthanadipathi and Chief Sanghanayake of “Nuwara Kalaviya,” Most Venerable Pallegama Sirisumana Rathanapala Hemarathana Nayake Thero, to receive blessings for the Navy’s future endeavours. He also visited the Chief Incumbent of Ruwanweliseya and Chancellor of Rajarata University, Panditha Ven. Ethalawetunuwave Gnanathilaka Maha Nayaka Thero, to seek blessings.
The Atamasthanadipathi Thero and the Venerable Maha Sangha acknowledged the Navy’s vital role in safeguarding the nation and its commitment to preserving religious sites for future generations. They invoked the blessings of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi for the Navy's enduring success and extended wishes of strength to the Commander of the Navy and all naval personnel.
The Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Jagath Kumara and a group of naval personnel from the Navy Headquarters and North Central Naval Command were present on these occasions.
