Navy joins forces to clean beaches and tourist hotspots
In support of the government's Clean Sri Lanka initiative, the Sri Lanka Navy lent its helping hand to various cleanup programmes across the Western, Southeastern, and Eastern Provinces on 15 and 16 Feb 25. These efforts included cleaning beaches and popular tourist spots under the "A Beautiful Beach - An Attractive Tourist Destination" project.
As a key partner of the “Clean Sri Lanka” national initiative, the Sri Lanka Navy conducts comprehensive coastal and tourist hotspot cleanup programmes across the island.
On 15 Feb, SLNS Rangalla in the Western Naval Command, took part in a cleanup initiative at the Diyatha Uyana and Diyawanna Oya areas. The following day (16 Feb), SLNS Mahanaga in the Southeastern Naval Command, joined government-organized beach cleaning efforts along the shores of Panama, Arugam Bay, Okanda, Maruthamunei, Periyanilavanai, Kalmunai Kuddi, and Kalmunai.
The efforts successfully removed a significant amount of waste, including plastic and polythene debris scattered along the coastline. The Navy ensured the collected waste was responsibly disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
Also on 16 Feb, the Eastern Naval Command organized a beach cleanup initiative in the Sandy Bay beach. Moreover, SLNS Vidura and Perakumba rolled up their sleeves to conduct beach cleaning efforts along the beaches associated with respective bases.
