Commander of the Navy felicitated by his alma maters in Bandarawela

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda was warmly felicitated by his alma maters, S. Thomas' College and Central College, Bandarawela, in a series of ceremonious events held on 25 Feb 25. The events, organized by the past students, teachers and children of both schools, celebrated his ascension to the pinnacle of naval career. The Commander of the Navy was accompanied by the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Anusha Banagoda, during these visits.

The itinerary commenced at S. Thomas' College, Bandarawela, where the Commander of the Navy was received by the Headmaster Mr. Palitha Navaratne, teaching staff, old boys and students. A Guard of Honour was then accorded to the Navy Chief by the school’s cadet platoon, showcasing the discipline and respect. Following a Service of Blessing was conducted, the proceedings then moved to the Keble Memorial Hall, where the Commander of the Navy addressed the gathering, inspiring the young minds. A colourful display of dance performances by the college’s dance teams added grandeur to the welcome event.

Following the felicitation at S. Thomas' College, the celebrations continued at Bandarawela Central College, where the Commander of the Navy received an equally warm welcome from the Principal, Ms. Vishaka Rajapaksha, old pupils, teachers and students. Later, at the school war monument, the Commander of the Navy paid floral tributes in honour of the fallen war heroes. The 6th Battalion of the National Cadet Corps then presented a Guard of Honour, in a symbolic gesture of respect and recognition. Next, Vice Admiral Banagoda took the stage once again, delivering an inspiring speech. A dazzling array of performances by the college dance teams as well as girl’s and boy’s western bands highlighted the dignified event.

In his addresses at both colleges, Vice Admiral Banagoda expressed heartfelt gratitude to his alma maters for the felicitations on the occasion of his appointment as Commander of the Navy and reminisced about the formative years he spent at those colleges.

Commander of the Navy offered valuable advice, particularly to the students growing up in the digital age. He emphasized the wide meaning of national security and involvement of everyone to reaffirm the security. Vice Admiral Banagoda also underscored the significance of education and self-contribution to the country in return.

The distinguished events also saw the participation of former and serving Tri-Service as well as Police personnel produced by S. Thomas' College, Bandarawela and Bandarawela Central College.
