SLNS Shakthi leaves for India for shipment of medical oxygen to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Shakthi left the Trincomalee harbour for the Port of Chennai, India this morning (17th August 2021) for a shipment of medical grade oxygen to Sri Lanka. Accordingly, the ship will take the delivery of the above item ordered from the Indian government, in order to maintain the required medical grade oxygen stocks for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in hospitals across the island.

High Dependency Unit of Wathupitiwala Base Hospital declared open

The new High Dependency Unit (HDU) of Wathupitiwala Base Hospital, built with the contribution of the Sri Lanka Navy, was declared open for the treatment of COVID-19 patients today (16th August 2021). The Navy took on the construction of this special unit, as part of its initiatives to strengthen the Government's programme of expanding infrastructure required for COVID-19 treatment.

Navy to promote water sports in Jaffna

With a view to promoting water sports in Jaffna, Sri Lanka Navy in collaboration with the Canoe Association of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Life Saving, conducted a workshop on Dragon Boat racing and life-saving at sea. The two-week-long workshop held at the waterfront of Karainagar channel intended to train 8 instructors representing schools of Jaffna and the fishery community. Meanwhile, the certificate awarding of the programme was conducted under the auspices of Commander Northern Naval Area Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera and with the attendance of Secretary of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affair in Northern Province, Mr. L.Ilaangovan at Fort Hammenhiel Resort, Karainagar on 14th August 2021.

Twenty six (26) Direct Entry officers pass out at Naval and Maritime Academy

The Passing out Parade of 26 Direct Entry officers of the Regular Naval Force (Technical) and Volunteer Naval Force from 1/2021 intake was held at the main parade ground of Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee today (14th August 2021). The colourful event was graced by Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Sanjeewa Dias as the Chief Guest, at the invitation of Commandant NMA, Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara.

Navy pledges continued support for COVID-19 vaccination

Sri Lanka Navy, pledging its continued support for the vaccination of general public with a view to curbing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, administered the Sinopharm vaccine to people at the Lighthouse premises on Chaithya Road Colombo today (13th August 2021).

Two Sea Water RO plants in Jaffna District vested with the public

The opening of 02 new Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants set up by Sri Lanka Navy was held under the patronage of the Governor Northern Province, Honorable Mrs. PSM Charles and with the attendance of Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera on 12th August 2021. As part of the Naval Social Responsibility (NSR) initiatives these 02 Sea Water RO units were installed on Kayts and Mandaitivu islands in the Divisional Secretariat of Velanai, Jaffna.

Navy keeps on with COVID-19 vaccination drive

Working hand in hand with the national vaccination efforts being conducted by the Armed Forces, inoculating the general public to control the COVID-19 pandemic, Sri Lanka Navy medical personnel administered the public with Sinopharm vaccine at the Lighthouse premises on Chaithya Road Colombo today (11th August 2021).

Navy continues COVID-19 vaccination efforts

Supporting the COVID-19 vaccination programme carried out by the Armed Forces focusing on the general public to control the transmission of the pandemic, Sri Lanka Navy is continuing inoculation drives to administer Sinopharm vaccine at the Lighthouse premises on Chaithya Road Colombo, Elapitiwela Chandrawansha Vidyalaya in Welisara and St Mary's Vidyalaya, Uswetakeiyawa today as well (10th August 2021).

Commander of the Navy visits Northwestern Naval Command

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, accompanied by the President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne, embarked on a visit to the Northwestern Naval Command on 08th August 2021.
