Children of Eluwankulama Sinhala Vidyalaya delighted in school facilities improved by Navy

The opening of newly constructed classroom building, laboratory and renovated computer laboratory at Eluwankulama Sinhala Vidyalaya in Puttalam District, was held under the patronage of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and with the attendance of the President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit today (08th August 2021). Sri Lanka Navy made its contribution to the construction and renovation of the above facilities to create a better learning environment for the school children.

Navy supports COVID-19 vaccination drive

Sri Lanka Navy is conducting an inoculation drive to administer Sinopharm vaccine at the Lighthouse premises on Chaithya Road Colombo commencing from today (08th August 2021). In addition, arrangements have also been made to conduct the same vaccination at Elapitiwela Chandrawansha Vidyalaya in Welisara and St Mary's Vidyalaya, Uswetakeiyawa by Navy medics, beginning from tomorrow (09th August). Supporting the COVID-19 vaccination programme carried out by the Armed Forces focusing on the general public to control the transmission of the pandemic, the Navy joined hands with the vaccination efforts.

School facilities improved by Navy bestowed on children of Roman Catholic College, Mandaitivu

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne today (01st August 2021) declared open several school facilities, expanded by Sri Lanka Navy with its funds and manpower, at the Roman Catholic College on Mandaitivu Island, Jaffna. Among the recently-developed facilities were; a new two-storeyed building and a renovated classroom building.

Commander of the Navy attends Russia`s Navy Day Parade in St Petersburg

The Russian Navy celebrated the 325th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Regular Fleet (Navy Day) on a high note in St Petersburg on 25th July 2021, in the graceful presence of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. At the invitation of the Commander in Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne and President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne, who were on an official visit to Russia attended this colourful and spectacular event.

Navy launches mangrove planting programme to coincide with International Mangrove Day

Sri Lanka Navy conducted a beach cleaning and mangrove planting programme to coincide with the International Mangrove Day. These programmes were held under the auspices of Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Bandula Senarathna in the beach areas of Talaimannar and Nachchikuda today (26th July 2021).

Passenger Vessel “Vadatharaki” resumes service on completion of repairs by Navy

Transportation between the islands of Punguduthivu and Delft was severely disrupted due to the non-operational condition of "Vadatharaki" – a Passenger Vessel deployed by the Road Development Authority to transport passengers and goods between Kurikadduwan Jetty on Punguduthivu Island and Delft Island in Jaffna. Following major repairs done by the Navy, the Passenger Vessel resumed its usual service commencing from 15th July 2021.

Navy sets new deep sea diving record

Even it is seen as a fascinating thing to glide around enjoying the underwater sights, diving entails some risk. Banishing all these risks aside, a diving officer of the Sri Lanka Navy together with his buddy diver set a new deep sea diving record in Trincomalee on 17th July 2021. Commander Nishantha Balasooriya – the Command Diving Officer at Naval Dockyard Trincomalee, along with his buddy - Able Diver WWNP Sandaruwan set a new record plunging an astonishing depth of 100 meters off the Elephant Island, Trincomalee.
