Rear Admiral Udaya Hettiarachchi today (20^th May 2021) retired from naval service, upon completion of his distinguished career spanning over 35 years in the Navy.

The National War Heroes’ Day commemoration which was held under the auspices of Commander in Chief of Armed Forces, His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the National War Heroes’ Monument in Battaramulla today (19^th May 2021). The ceremony held in a dignified sequence was also attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

A solemn ceremony to commemorate fallen Navy war veterans who made the supreme sacrifice for the defeat of terrorism that battered the country nearly three decades, was held under the patronage of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Naval War Hero Monument in Welisara today (19^th May 2021).

Rear Admiral Meril Sudarshana today (19^th May 2021) relinquished naval duties to which he was committed over the past 35 years.

Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to reinstall the floating boom that had been washed away in Kelani river on 18^th May 2021. This floating boom which prevents floating debris from entering the water intake well had disintegrated following the rising water levels of the Kelani river during adverse weather condition prevailed in the past couple of days.

Rear Admiral Upul De Silva assumed duties as Commander Western Naval Area at the Command Headquarters today (18^th May 2021).

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne today (15^th May 2021) made a visit to review the progress of amenity expansion in Intermediate Care Centre for COVID-19 in Gampaha as well as Wathupitiwala, Gampaha and Minuwangoda Hospitals . In support of the government’s effort to improve health care facilities for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, Sri Lanka Navy is currently working in full swing to complete these projects in the Gampaha district, following the directives of His Excellency the President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa and guidance of Secretary of Defence, General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne.

On the sidelines of the vaccination programme set about to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sri Lanka Navy in collaboration with the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) in Katunayake Export Processing Zone (EPZ) carried out another inoculation drive to administer ‘Sinopharm’ vaccination to employees of EPZ today (15^th May 2021).

The newly constructed pediatric unit of Navy General Hospital Welisara was declared open under the auspices of the President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU) Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne and with the attendance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the hospital premises today (14th May 2021). The amenities of Navy General Hospital Welisara were further expanded with this new facility in a bid to extend more health care facilities to the children of naval families.

A blood donation campaign organized by the Navy and National Blood Transfusion Service was held with the contribution of naval personnel at Sri Lanka Naval Ship (SLNS) Kawanthissa, Hambantota today (14th May 2021).
