In connection with the 70th anniversary of Sri Lanka Navy, the sea going arm of the country has launched another social responsibility initiative, under the directives and guidance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, to develop selected underprivileged schools in the country, in year 2021. The prime motive of the project is to create a more conducive learning environment for the children - the future generation of the country. Accordingly, this timely project was launched in the Western, Eastern, North Central, Northwestern, Southeastern, Southern and Northern Naval Commands on 19th April 2021. Financial contribution extended voluntarily by all officers and sailors from their monthly salaries is utilized for the project, while the Navy also enables its able manpower required for the construction work.

The Christian Commemoration and Thanksgiving Service organized in connection with the 70^th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy was held at the Christ the King Chapel in Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee on 17^th April 2021. The spiritual ceremony which was conducted by the clergy including the His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Christian Noel Emmanuel, Bishop of Trincomalee was presided over by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

The Indian Naval Ship (INS) ‘Ranvijay’ arrived at the port of Colombo on a three-day visit on 14th April 2021.

Rear Admiral Nishantha Samarasinghe today (12^th April 2021) retired from naval service, upon completion of his distinguished career spanning over 34 years in the Navy.

The Navy conducted a disaster management training programme in Gin Ganga at Gintota from 5th to 10th April 2021, with the aim of sharpening the skills when dealing with a possible flood situation.

The Navy-constructed Lankagama Nilwella Bridge was ceremonially declared open on 10th April 2021. The opening ceremony was held under the patronage of the Governor of Southern Province, Dr. Willy Gamage and with the attendance of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne. The new bridge connects the villages of Lankagama and Nilwella of Neluwa in the Southern Province.

At the invitation of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne Minister of Youth & Sports, Honorable Namal Rajapaksa declared open the ‘Underwater Gallery Nilwella’ at Nilwella beach today (10^th April 2021). Built with the contribution of the Sri Lanka Navy, this latest addition in the southern coast of Nilwella, would from here on attract more local and foreign holidaymakers towards this popular tourist destination.

Relinquishing duties to which he was committed more than 34 years, Rear Admiral Senarath Wijesooriya retired from naval service today (09th April 2021).

Sri Lanka Navy granted an interest free loan worth Rs. 500,000 each to 43 senior sailors and Rs. 200,000 each to 29 junior sailors in the Leading Rate today (07th April 2021). The occasion to hand over cheques, amounting to Rs. 27.3 million in total, to the beneficiaries was presided over by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters.
