Hon. Prime Minister presides over prize awarding of Art and Animation Video competition organized by Task Force to Combat the Use of Poisonous and Dangerous Drugs

At the invitation of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera who is also the President Task Force to Combat the Use of Poisonous and Dangerous Drugs, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, Honourable Dr. Harini Amarasuriya today (29th November 2024) presided over the prize awarding ceremony of Art and Animation Video competition, at the Navy Headquarters. Organized by the Task Force to Combat the Use of Poisonous and Dangerous Drugs, the competition was held under the theme of “EMPOWERING CHILDREN AND YOUTH FOR BRIGHT FUTURE WITHOUT DRUGS”, for school children and the youth community.

Commander of the Navy attends special meeting chaired by Governor of the Northern Province and Deputy Minister of Defence for relief efforts in Northern Province

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera took part in a special meeting chaired by Governor of the Northern Province along with Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), senior tri-service personnel and government officials at the District Secretariat in Mannar on 27th November 2024. Discussions focused on assessing the disaster situation in the area and implementing immediate relief measures to address the urgent needs.

Commander of the Navy attends Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony was held under the patronage of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Sri Lanka, Honourable Anura Kumara Dissanayake, at Cenotaph War Memorial in Viharamahadevi Park, Colombo today (24th November 2024). The event, which solemnly commemorated the sacrifices of war veterans from World War I and II, as well as those who laid down their lives in service of Sri Lanka since gaining independence, was also attended by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.

Navy hosts 74th Anniversary Get-together on grand note at Wave n' Lake Navy Hall

The 74th Anniversary Get-together of Sri Lanka Navy was held on a colourful note at the Wave n' Lake Navy Hall on 22nd November 2024. The Anniversary Get-together was yet another segment of a wide-ranging programmes organised by the Sri Lanka Navy in compliance with naval traditions, to mark its 74th Anniversary. At the invitation of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera and the President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Mala Lamahewa the occasion was graced by the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) along with his spouse. The occasion was also distinguished by the presence of Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa along with their spouses, Acting Director General of Police, Priyantha Weerasooriya, former Navy Commanders and invited guests.

Twenty-seven (27) Marine personnel complete training triumphantly

The insignia awarding to 07 officers and 20 sailors of the 09th intake of Sri Lanka Navy Marines, who successfully completed their training, was held at the main parade ground of SLNS Vidura in Sampoor, Trincomalee on 19th November 2024. The ceremony was graced by Deputy Chief of Staff of the Navy and Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Damian Fernando, at the invitation of the Commandant SLNS Vidura, Captain Sanjeewa Kodikara.

USS Spruance departs Colombo

USS Spruance of the United States Navy which arrived at the port of Colombo on a replenishment visit on 18th November 2024, departed the island today (19th November), after successfully completing its replenishment operations. The Sri Lanka Navy extended a ceremonial farewell, upholding its rich naval traditions, as she departed.

JMSDF SAMIDARE departs island concluding formal visit

The Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) ship SAMIDARE, which arrived in Sri Lanka on 17th November 2024, departed the island today (19th November), on successful completion of her formal visit. The Sri Lanka Navy bade customary farewell to the departing ship at the Colombo port, following naval traditions.
