Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva visited the Southern Naval Command on 21^stand 22^nd February. The Navy Commander was warmly received to the Southern Naval Command by Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera.

Navy rendered assistance to clean the Maha Palugaswewa Tank in Mahawa, Kurunegala which had become an unusable water source due to collection of salvinia and other floating ferns, today (23^rd February).

After issuing a temporary order of prohibition by the Geological Survey and Mining Bureau (GSMB), for sand mining in the Mahaweli River basin from 15^th to 28^th February, the officials of GSMB with the assistance of the Navy have commenced a survey to identify the sand mining areas of the Mahaweli River in Trincomalee.
