Sri Lanka Navy took part in the 68th Independence Day celebrations held at Galle Face Green, Colombo on 04th February 2016.

The Commanding Officer of the 22nd Squadron Fleet Air Wing 2, Fleet Air Force of the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF), Commander Takahiro Yamshita paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo on 03rd February 2016.

The Navy rendered assistance to repair the left bank sluice gates of the Rajangana Reservoir, which had been non-operational for nearly a week. In response to a request made by the Rajangana regional irrigational engineer, the naval divers attached to the North Central Naval Command assisted in the repair work on the inside and outside gates of the 35-feet deep sluice.

Eighty-one Midshipmen belonging to the 53rd Cadet Entry Intake on completion of their strenuous training at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) in Trincomalee as well as onboard various naval ships were commissioned at a colourful commissioning parade held at the main parade ground of the NMA on 02nd February 2016.

Navy divers were able to recover the dead bodies of five fishermen who had been missing after their multi-day fishing trawler had collided with a merchant vessel 40 nautical miles south east of the Little Basses on 31st January 2016.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne declared open the five (5) newly built rooms at the Lake Front Resort in Kantale on 01st February 2016.

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya in Kalpitiya arrested thirty-one local fishermen with 8 FGDs engaged in illegal fishing using tow banned fishing nets in the Baththalangunduwa and Kibulbokka sea areas on 31st January 2016.

The Sri Lanka Navy clinched the National Netball Championship beating the Sri Lanka Air force 53-52 at the finals held at the North Central Sports Complex in Anuradhapura on 31st January 2016.

Sri Lanka Navy assisted the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to arrest nine Indian fishermen along with two Indian fishing trawlers poaching in Sri Lankan waters North West of Analative Island on 30th January 2016.

The Sri Lanka Navy assisted the repatriation of four Indian fishermen released from Sri Lankan custody on 30th January 2016.
