A team of US Marine officials visited the Sri Lanka Navy Headquarters yesterday (20) to participate at the initial planning conference on navy patrolmen training for the year 2016.

Naval personnel deployed on a patrol craft attached to the North Western Naval Command arrested five local fishermen with an FGD engaged in illegal fishing using a monofilament net in the Kudiramalai sea area in Silawathura on 19th January 2016.

Sri Lanka Navy arrested three Indian fishermen along with a fishing boat (Dhow) poaching in Sri Lankan waters off Mathagal on 19th January 2016.

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya in Kalpitiya arrested six persons along with two Fiber Glass Dinghies and two fishing nets (Surukku) in the seas between Baththalangunduwa and ‘K’ point whilst engaged in illegal fishing on 18th January 2016.

The Commander of the Task Force and Deputy Chief of Staff of the South Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy, Rear Admiral Yu Manjiang and the Commanding Officers of the three PLAN ships, which are on a goodwill visit to Sri Lanka, paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo on 18th January 2016.

In response to a request made by the Presidential Task Force for Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease, the Sri Lanka Navy effected repairs to a malfunctioned Reverse Osmosis Plant (RO Plant) at Mu/Janakapura Vidyalaya in Janakapura, Weli Oya, enabling the students to have clean and safe drinking water.

The book The Monastic Tradition of Sri Lanka (ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ආරණ්‍ය සේනාසන සම්ප්‍රදාය) , written by Lieutenant Commander Ishara Karunaratne, was presented to the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne at the Naval Headquarters on 18th January 2016.

Indian Navy Sail Training Ships, “Tharangini” and “Sudarshini” arrived at the port of Colombo on 17th January 2016 on a training visit.

Three People’s Liberation Army-Navy (PLAN) ships, “Liuzhohu”, “Sanya” and “Qinghaihu”, arrived at the Port of Colombo on a goodwill visit on 17th January 2016.

Sri Lanka Navy assisted the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to arrest three Indian fishermen along with a fishing trawler poaching in Sri Lankan waters North-West of Kareinagar on 16th January 2016.
