Rear Admiral Priyal Withanage assumed duties as Director General Services at the office of Director General Services in the Navy Headquarters today (04th July 2023).

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera donated an electric wheelchair to a permanently disabled retired senior sailor on 03rd July 2023. The donation took place at the residence of the retired Master Chief Petty Officer MUL Jayarathna, in Elpitiya.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera embarked on an official visit to Trincomalee-South in the Eastern Naval Command on 01st July 2023. During this visit, he focused on operational and welfare concerns of the Navy and Coast Guard in the area and also addressed a cross section of officers and sailors on Navy's preparedness for operations and as how to prudently overcome challenges.

The commissioning ceremony and passing out parade of twenty-three (23) Midshipmen belonging to Technical branches of the 35th and 36th intakes of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University were held at the main parade ground of Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee on 30th June 2023. At the invitation of Commandant NMA Commodore Buddhika Liyanagamage, the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera graced this dignified ceremony as the Chief Guest and took the salute.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera handed over letters of appointment to 35 Officer Cadets of the 65th intake, 29 Direct Entry officers and 03 Officer Cadets who qualified for university admission through University Grants Commission (UGC). The ceremony in this regard was held at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium in the Navy Headquarters today (28th June 2023).

For the first time in the history of the Sri Lanka Navy, the first group of women para jumpers, consisting 02 lady officers and 03 women sailors, successfully completed their basic parachute course at the Sri Lanka Air Force Parachute Training School, Ampara on 21st June 2023.

Taking another significant step towards coastal conservation, the Navy launched a mangrove planting programme in the lagoon area of Ullukkalei, Lankapatuna on 26th June 2023. The event which saw planting of 1000 mangrove saplings, was held under the patronage of Commander Eastern Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force, Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara.

A National Defence University (NDU) delegation from the People’s Republic of China on 23rd June 2023 visited the Navy Headquarters. The 56-member delegation, led by Major General Zhang Changsheng, is currently in Sri Lanka, as part of the study tour from 21 to 24th June.

IKAZUCHI (DD-107) of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, which arrived in Colombo on 22nd June 2023, departed the island on 23rd June 2023. The Sri Lanka Navy bade customary farewell to the departing ship in compliance with naval traditions at the port of Colombo.

The Sri Lanka Navy today (23rd June 2023) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Vijitha Marapana who relinquished his naval duties to which he was committed over 33 years.
