The outgoing Defence Attaché at the High Commission of Namibia in New Delhi and accredited to Sri Lanka, Brigadier General Titus Simon paid farewell call on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera at the Navy Headquarters today (20th April 2023).

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera called on the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, H.E. Gopal Baglay at his official residence in Colombo today (20th April 2023).

The Indonesian Naval Ship KRI Bima Suci arrived at the port of Colombo on an official visit this morning (20th April 2023). The visiting ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) in compliance with naval tradition.

In line with the Sinhala and Tamil New Year auspicious ritual ‘Nekathata Palayak’, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera planted a mango sapling in the Navy Headquarters premises today (20th April 2023) at 06.38 a.m. The programme was launched island wide by the Ministry of Agriculture as part of the national tree planting project.

The Sri Lanka Navy set free 97 sea turtle hatchlings at the Panama beach on 11th April 2023, in a bid to save these endangered marine animal. The Deputy Area Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Commodore Ruwan Rupasena was also in attendance on this occasion where the hatchlings were released. As part of the Turtle Conservation Project of the Sri Lanka Navy, the eggs of these hatchlings were conserved, to help them start the journey to adulthood.

The government of Sri Lanka launched a project for a passenger ferry service between the port of Kankasanthurai, Sri Lanka and Pondicherry, India to provide a more affordable and convenient mode of transportation. In support of this project, the Sri Lanka Navy has commenced facility expansion of the Kankasanthurai harbour, with a view to accommodate more traffic and provide better infrastructure.

The Sinhala and Hindu New Year Fair 2023, organized by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), and Western Naval Command New Year Festival were successfully held at the Welisara Naval Complex on 10th April 2023. At the invitation of the President of NSVU Mrs Mala Lamahewa, the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera declared open the New Year Fair.

As part of its social responsibility initiatives, the Navy organised a blood donation campaign at the Command Naval Hospital (East) on 08th April 2023.

The Sri Lanka–India Naval Exercise (SLINEX) -23 came to a successful conclusion in Colombo seas on 08th April 2023. Commenced on 03rd April, SLINEX -23 marked yet another milestone in the maritime cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

USNS Brunswick, a Spearhead-Class Expeditionary Fast Transport ship of the U.S. Navy arrived at the port of Trincomalee today (08th April 2023).
