Ranaviru Seva Authority awards scholarships to children from war hero families

The Ranaviru Seva Authority today (24th March 2023) held a programme to award scholarships to 16 children of veterans of Armed Forces and Police who died due to non-operational causes. The event was held at the Headquarters Office of Ranaviru Seva Authority under the patronage of the Chairman of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, Major General Nandana Senadeera (Retd) and it was also attended by the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Mala Lamahewa.

The Sri Lanka Navy today (24th March 2023) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Mahinda Mahawatte who relinquished his naval duties to which he was committed over the past 33 years.

Navy releases 146 sea turtle hatchlings into ocean

The Sri Lanka Navy released 146 sea turtle hatchlings at Panama beach on 21st March 2023, in a bid to save these endangered marine animal. The Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda was also in attendance on this occasion where the hatchlings were released. As part of the Turtle Conservation Project of the Sri Lanka Navy, the eggs of these hatchlings were conserved at the Turtle Conservation Unit in SLNS Mahanaga.

The opening ceremony was graced by the Commander Eastern Naval Area and Commandant Volunteer Naval Force, Rear Admiral Dammika Kumara.

Navy Seva Vanitha Unit comes forward to help people in need

The Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU) organised a social responsibility programme on 17th March 2023, to mark the International Day of Disabled Persons. The event, which was held under the patronage of the President of NSVU, saw donation of spectacles, hearing aids and wheelchairs to the next of kin of serving naval personnel, in a symbolic gesture.

The noble cause held for the benefit of naval personnel, their family members and civil staff employees, was well supported by the College of Ophthalmologists, Teaching Hospital Karapitiya.

Commodore Buddhika Liyanagamage assumed duties as Commandant Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee on 14th March 2023. The Naval and Maritime Academy, famously known as NMA, is the premier training establishment of the Sri Lanka Navy.
