Navy seizes 05 Indian fishing boats poaching in Sri Lankan waters

The Sri Lanka Navy seized 05 Indian fishing boats and apprehended 32 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during a special operation conducted in the sea area north of Mannar in the dark hours of 22 and wee hours of 23 Feb 25.

Navy nabs 07 suspects with narcotics in special search operations in past two weeks

Separate operations conducted by the Navy with the assistance of Police and Police STF from 03 to 19 Feb 25 in Silawathura, Wilpattu, Cod Bay in Trincomalee as well as Kimbula Ela and Kovil Road in Modara led to the arrest of 07 suspects with an assortment of narcotic substances. Among the apprehended items were; 20g of Kerala cannabis, 1050mg of ‘Mawa’ drug, and 26g and 376mg of methamphetamine (Ice).

Seventeen (17) individuals apprehended for engaging in illegal fishing

The Navy apprehended 17 persons for their involvement in illegal fishing practices, during separate operations conducted in the beach and sea areas of Kokkadi, Nandikadal, Mullaitivu, Anawasala, Sinnapadu and Kadeikadu from 03 to 19 Feb 25. The individuals had engaged in fishing using explosives, fishing with unauthorized nets sans valid license and illegal night diving, when the apprehensions were made. The operations also resulted in the seizure of 12 fishing boats, 01 motorbike, 156 unauthorized fishing nets, 184 sea cucumbers and 22 conch shells.

The Sri Lanka Navy seized 03 Indian fishing boats and apprehended 10 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during a special operation conducted in the sea area north of Mannar and off the Delft Island in the dark hours of 19 Feb 25.

The Navy retrieved about 140kg and 40g (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis adrift in the sea, during a search operation conducted off the Kalmunai Point, Jaffna in the wee hours of today (17 Feb 25).

Navy assists stranded trawler adrift at sea

The Sri Lanka Navy assisted to bring a stranded trawler with a foreign tourist couple back to shore safely, on the night of 09 Feb 25. The trawler had been adrift at sea between Delft Island and Kurikadduwan due to an operational failure, without fuel.

Navy responds to bring ashore an injured fisherman for urgent treatment

The Sri Lanka Navy swiftly responded to bring ashore an injured fisherman and transfer him to the General Hospital, Trincomalee, for urgent medical attention today (06 Feb 25). Reportedly, the fisherman with hand injuries was aboard a multiday fishing trawler on the high seas off the east coast of Trincomalee and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo coordinated the retrieval of the injured fisherman with the assistance of a Bulk Carrier.

Navy assists to bring ashore ill fisherman in southern seas, through MRCC coordination, for medical attention

The Sri Lanka Navy brought ashore an ill fisherman who was in critical condition aboard a local multiday fishing trawler, south of the island about 43 nautical miles (79km) off Galle. Upon being brought ashore, he was transferred to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for medical attention today (06 Feb 25).
