Navy nabs 07 suspects with narcotics in special search operations in past two weeks

Separate operations conducted by the Navy with the assistance of Police and Police STF from 03 to 19 Feb 25 in Silawathura, Wilpattu, Cod Bay in Trincomalee as well as Kimbula Ela and Kovil Road in Modara led to the arrest of 07 suspects with an assortment of narcotic substances. Among the apprehended items were; 20g of Kerala cannabis, 1050mg of ‘Mawa’ drug, and 26g and 376mg of methamphetamine (Ice).

A coordinated search operation conducted by SLNS Therapuththa in the Northwestern Naval Command with the Silawathura Police resulted in the arrest of a suspect (01) with about 20g of Kerala cannabis and a motorbike (01) in Marichchikaddi, Silawathura on 03 Feb. In another search operation mounted by SLNS Barana with the Silawathura Police made way for the arrest of a suspect (01) with about 1050mg of ‘Mawa’ drug at the Kalaru roadblock in Wilpattu on 08 Feb.

Meanwhile, SLNS Rangalla in the Western Naval Command in collaboration with the Modara Police STF conducted a raid on 10 Feb in Kimbula Ela, Modara where 02 suspects were arrested with about 08g and 246mg of methamphetamine (Ice). In the same vein, similar operation mounted on the Kovil Road, Modara on 16 Feb resulted in the apprehension of an individual with approx. 15g of methamphetamine.

In a coordinated operation on 12 Feb, SLNS Ship Mahaweli, under the Eastern Naval Command, joined forces with the Sardhapura Police STF to conduct a search in Cod Bay, Trincomalee. During the operation, 02 individuals were arrested for possessing around 03g and 130mg of methamphetamine.

The suspects held in these operations are residents of Mannar, Vavuniya, Kovil Road, Kimbula Ela, Madampitiya, Trincomalee and China Bay from 25 to 45 years of age. The suspect arrested with Kerala cannabis and a motorbike in Marichchikaddi as well as the suspect nabbed with ‘Mawa’ at the Kalaru road block were handed over to the Silawathura Police. Meanwhile, the 02 suspects held with methamphetamine in Cod Bay were handed over to the China Bay Police. Also, the 02 suspects nabbed with methamphetamine in Kimbula Ela and Kovil Road were handed over to the Bloemendhal and Modara Police stations for onward legal proceedings.
