Navy assists transfer of injured fisherman rescued through coordination of MRCC Colombo

The Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring ashore an injured fisherman, who was aboard a local multi day fishing trawler at sea south-east of Sri Lanka, about 179 nautical miles (331km) off Kirinda. The fisherman was brought to the Offshore Patrol Limit of Galle, on being coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo. After being brought ashore today (23rd October 2024), he was rushed to the Teaching Hospital of Karapitiya, for medical attention by the Navy.

Navy nabs 02 persons for illegal night diving in the eastern seas

The Navy apprehended 02 persons who engaged in illegal night diving in the sea area of Sallikovil, Trincomalee, during a search operation conducted on 21st October 2024. The operation also led to the seizure of 01 boat, diving gear and fishing equipment used for this illegal activity.

Naval operations conducted between 10th and 20th October 2024, across the sea and coastal areas from Puttalam to Silawathura, resulted in the seizure of over 1,066 kg of smuggled Tendu leaves.

Two (2) suspects with Kerala cannabis valued over Rs. 6 million held in Chavakachcheri

A search operation conducted by the Navy and Police in the Maniththalei area of Chavakachcheri on 19th October 2024 led to the arrest of two suspects and seizure of about 15kg and 055g of Kerala cannabis and one dinghy.

A suspect held with methamphetamine in Nochchikulam, Trincomalee

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Police Narcotic Bureau in the Nochchikulam area of Trincomalee on 18th October 2024 led to the arrest of a suspect (1) with 15g and 310mg of methamphetamine being peddled.

Over 33kg of Kerala cannabis valued more than Rs. 13 million seized

In separate operations on 17th October 2024, the Sri Lanka Navy, in coordination with the Police Special Task Force (STF) in Talaimannar, and acting independently on Kachchativu Island, seized approximately 33kg and 88g of Kerala cannabis (wet weight). One of the operations also led to the arrest of a suspect in connection with the possession of the illicit substance.

Two (02) suspects held with methamphetamine and prescription drug pills in Selwanayakapuram, Trincomalee

A coordinated search operation conducted by the Navy and Police STF in Selwanayakapuram, Trincomalee on 15th October 2024 led to the apprehension of 02 suspects with 4g and 340mg of Methamphetamine (ICE) as well as 10 capsules and 20 tablets of prescription drugs, being smuggled to sell.

Navy assists transfer of ill fisherman rescued through coordination of MRCC Colombo

The Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring ashore an ill fisherman, who was aboard a local multi day fishing trawler on the high seas south-west of Sri Lanka, about 881 nautical miles (1631km) off Dondra. Initially, the fisherman was retrieved by a Merchant Vessel in the sea area, on being coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo. After being brought ashore today (15th October 2024), he was rushed to the National Hospital of Colombo, for medical attention.

Navy mobilizes resources to support communities affected by flood

Due to the heavy rainfall caused by adverse weather conditions affecting the island, several areas in the Western and Northwestern Provinces are experiencing floods. To assist those impacted, 07 Navy flood relief teams are engaged in relief operations in those areas as of today (15th October 2024). Working in coordination with the Disaster Management Center (DMC), Navy flood relief teams are continuously carrying out relief efforts in the Gampaha, Colombo and Puttalam districts.
