Navy clinches Inter Club Women’s Rugby 10s title for 2024/25
The Navy Sports Club (SC) emerged victorious in the final encounter of the Inter Club Women’s Rugby 10s tournament worked off in Welisara, securing the championship title. The Navy delivered a commanding performance, defeating CR & FC with a final score of 61-05. The tournament spanned several months, commencing on 28 Dec 24, and concluding on 14 Mar 25.
Dominating from the outset, the Navy Women's Rugby Team stormed into the second round of the tournament with decisive victories over CR & FC (44-15) and Army (32-07). As a result of the dominant performance, the Navy edged out the Army 27-24 in the second round, making the way for the Navy to the final in which the women in blue clinched the championship title.
In the final match, the Navy achieved the impressive total of 61 points, due to outstanding performances from several players. Woman Able Seaman RHS Kumari led the charge with 6 tries, while Woman Ordinary Seaman KPDP Sathsarani contributed 2 tries. Additionally, Woman Leading Seamen WDS Prabhumali and MDR Kumudumali each added a try, Woman Leading Seaman ASH Madumali delivered 1 try and 1 conversion, and Woman Leading Seaman WSDS Wijethilake successfully made 2 conversions.
Also, in this tournament, Woman Able Seaman RSH Hemakumari won the trophy for the highest scorer of the tournament, scoring 09 tries (45 points).
A group of officers from the Navy Rugby Pool, coaches and naval personnel were present to witness the final encounter.
