Navy Chief unveils operational infrastructure at SLNS Elara
Marking a significant step in operational infrastructure, the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda declared open the newly constructed building complex, housing the Operations Room, Main Signal Office, and Private Auto Branch Exchange, at SLNS Elara on 02 May 26.
Upon his arrival, Vice Admiral Banagoda was warmly received at the Northern Naval Command Headquarters by the Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage. During a briefing at the command headquarters, the Navy Chief was updated on the current security landscape, operational preparedness, and the progress of various administrative and welfare projects within the Northern Naval Area.
The ambitious construction project, which commenced in January 2026, was brought to fruition expeditiously through the engineering and technical expertise of the Navy’s Civil Engineering Department, to streamline the command and control functions within the Northern Naval Command.
The Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Buddhika Liyanagamage and a group of officers were also present on this occasion.
